Happy Independence Day FLT Josh Stuart-Shor
For many of us, the 4th of July marks the official start of summer. Beaches, Boats, BBQ's, late night backyard festivities and long hours of daylight with no place to be for our little ones at home.
To sum it up, Summer truly is a time (and opportunity) for unstructured play and vacationing either with your family or for yourself. When it comes to self care, this time is an opportunity to reset, relax and just let your time outside of the firehouse be fun.
This same time of year can also be a challenge when it comes to maintaining consistency in your exercise routines and nutritional habits. Many of us find it hard to maintain a gym routine while traveling. We want to enjoy the fun foods and not constrain ourselves to the "healthy" foods we started eating in January. Thats ok.
With this in mind, look at this shake up in routine as an opportunity. If you are traveling and can't get to a gym, find an outdoor activity. Active lifestyles are still physical activity. Hike, swim, bike, water ski. Eat the foods you want, in moderation. Don't let your summer plans derail you from all the progress many of you have made. Work in your healthy habits around your leisure activities. Then dial it back in on your return.
We hope you all enjoy celebrating our Independence Day, have a great summer kick off and continue building and creating healthy sustainable habits for your profession and your personal lives.
