Monthly Challenges

April 2025 Rowathon
Due to Easter falling on Marathon Weekend, this year’s Rowathon will take place throughout April, with an in-person event taking place on April 27th. Teams will row a distance equivalent to a marathon - 42,195 meters. The Concept 2 erg’s monitor will be programmed for the distance. This must be completed in one sitting and firefighters can alternate rowing, as needed.
Civilians and sworn members are “challenged” to participate in one of two ways.

December 2024 - Great Peloton Ride of 2024
Great Peloton Ride of 2024
December's challenge is to cycle as much as possible in 30 days. Members may use their firehouse or personal Peloton bike, but only workouts completed on a Peloton are eligible. Spin classes or rides completed on other spin bikes will NOT be accepted.

November 2024 Drop It Like a Squat
The squat is a natural resting position that we should be able to
access with ease. Our lack of squat mobility has nothing to do
with our size, our age or our injuries. It’s that we stopped doing
what we were created to do … MOVE. This challenge is about
personal growth.

September 2023 Shooting Planks
This is arguably the most important challenge to date. Habits gained over these 14 days will help with poor posture, lower back pain, lifting, carrying and balance. Strengthening your core is the first step to bulletproofing your body for the physical demands of the fire service and correcting months/years of neglect.

May 2023 Team Murph
BFD will host an annual department-wide “Murph” hero workout. This workout honors Navy Lieutenant Michael “Murph” Murphy, a Medal of Honor Recipient who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. This workout was Murph’s go-to prior to his death and is one of the most popular “Hero” workouts used to recognize our fallen warriors.
